It's all too familiar....

"The Iranian nuclear confrontation will just not go away.

The latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that Iran is not cooperating fully in the investigation of its nuclear activities leaves this potentially serious crisis open.

Iran is featuring heavily in the US presidential campaign, with the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain frequently suggesting that Democratic hopeful Barack Obama, who has proposed talks with Iran, is showing weakness.

The issue is likely to remain an important one for whoever is the next president - assuming the Bush administration does not take military action in its final months.

Iran says it has answered all questions and that its intentions are entirely peaceful.

Until this is cleared up, the suspicion will be that Iran has been interested in nuclear weaponisation. And if it was once, it might be again."

The story keeps getting more interesting.... Bush only has so much time left right?

White House denies story about attacking Iran

The White House on Tuesday denied a published report in Israel that said President Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term in January.

A story in the Jerusalem Post quoted a "senior official" there as saying that Bush plans to attack Iran in the coming months. The story says the unidentified official claimed that a "senior member" of Bush's traveling entourage made the statement about attacking Iran in a closed meeting. Bush was in Israel last week.

The article also says the unnamed Bush official said that Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney "were of the opinion that military action were called for."

Thanks Steve....

I found a good analysis of what is happening via a Pakistan paper. Sometimes Americans are caught up in the media propaganda and can't see through the smoke and mirrors that form their reality.

Yet others can see plain as day what is really going on:

Why the United States of America cant leave Iraq

http://www.daily.pk/world/americas/99-americas/3747-why-the-united-states-of-america-cant-leave-iraq-.html

Excerpt: "The American people do not recognize themselves in the mirror. They evidently see only fantasy images, unrelated to reality, derived from films. The reality that others see is horrific. If President Bush can engineer an excuse and a plan involving low American casualties, America will permit him to invade Iran as well – and pretend that it did not know the truth."

Excellent essay, Doug.

Somewhere along the way we lost our way as a nation.
Our Founding Fathers would not be amused at what we have become!

It seemed to start with the arrogance of our foreign policy since WWII.
Suddenly, we go from a nation that avoided entangling aliances to a nation that can't stop meddling in the affairs of all nations in the world.
What on earth are we doing with over 100 military bases in foreign nations?

President Eisenhower, a former top military general, warned us in 1960 when he left office, that we should carefully monitor and control the ominous growth of the military-industrial complex.

I doubt that he could have imagined the power and control that they now wield in foreign and defense policy.
This has to be his worst nightmare come true!

Best wishes my friend,
Steve

The rhetoric continues:

John Bolton, America’s ex-ambassador to the United Nations, has called for US air strikes on Iranian camps where insurgents are trained for war in Iraq.
